A closer look at Europapier's emissions

In 2010 we took a closer look at our own footprint. In order to identify our contribution to the environmental impact of our products, we launched a project to evaluate and analyze the CO2 emissions in Austria.

This encompasses the transport of products from our suppliers to our customers, the energy supply of our office buildings and warehouses, as well as our employees' business trips.

The results of this environmental balance are as follows:

On average the specific emissions are about 110 kg/t of delivered paper, which makes about 10% of the average total CO2 emissions released by the production of 1 t of paper. CEPI average for Europe is ca. 850 kg/t of paper depending on the product.

A 10% impact of the paper merchant on the whole value-chain is certainly not the most concerning, but it should not be neglected either.

The energy supplies for our locations in Austria and the business trips of our employees (both by car and by plane) amount to approx. 22 kg/t of paper sold, and therefore do not have a huge impact on the emissions. The transport of the sold products, represent the major potential for the reduction of greenhouse gases.

Therefore, we are committed to the continuous optimization of our logistic chain in order to reduce the total emissions of our products. Additionally, we continue evaluating the environmental performance of our suppliers and request, where appropriate, further optimization of their emissions (primarily by energy efficiency measures).
